Het originele bijschrift luidt: "American soldiers study at U.S. Army University center in Italy. Members of the U.S. Army, awaiting redeployment, attend a class in solid geometry at the University of Florence, Italy, the first opened of four universities planned for the European and Mediterrannean theaters, which will present an extensive educational program for military personnel overseas. The study center at Florence opened July 9, 1945, with a student body of 1,200 men and women representing every branch of the U.S. Army in Italy. At the universities, the students will wear uniforms, but there will be no classroom distinction between officers and enlisted men. The university centers will enable military personnel awaiting redeployment or repatriation to pick up the threads of their civilian interest by study and practical application or training. More than 150 U.S. college professors and instructors had arrived in England by mid-July to teach at the U.s. Army University centers."
