Italian children get lesson in freedom.
Italian children get lesson in freedom. A portrait of Italy's Giuseppe Garibaldi, 19th century Italian general and patriot, who became known as the 'Liberator' in the establishment of pre-fascist democracy, is displayed for Italian school children by their school teacher in the liberated town of Apricene, near Foggia, in Italy. Alongside the picture is a poster depicting an Italian workman pointing flags of the Allies. The words on the poster mean: 'These are out friends.' One of the first functions of the Allied Military Government, cooperating with local officials in Italy, was to restore the education of children by Italian teachers.
