U.S. Marauder goes down over Italy. A B-26 Marauder of the First U.S.
U.S. Marauder goes down over Italy. A B-26 Marauder of the First U.S. Tactical Air Force goes down over German-held Italy with its left wing shot off by a German 88 mm. flank sholl, the rudder gone and the plexi-glass nose shattered. A second after this photograph was taken, the bomber flipped over on its back and spun into the hills beyond the river. The pilot was still trying to fly the plane when the picture was taken, as he had applied full right aileron in an attempt to keep the plane on an even keel. Other crews on the mission saw no parachutes.
