Christmas comes to Madrid. The child in this picture was found half-naked and starved among the ruins of her home in Madrid after her parents had been killed in an air raid. She was discovered by a passer-by, who is seen wearing an overcoat and heavy muffler - the child has only the thinnest garments. This picture was taken by a London staff photographer who says that scenes such as this are everyday occurrences as Christmas comes to Madrid.
