Sliding sideways into the water, an American submarine, newest addition to the U.S. Navy's submarine fleet, is launched at a shipyard in the Midwestern State of Wisconsin. Frank Knox, U.S. Secretary of the Navy, announced on Oct. 29, 1943, that U.S. submarines operating in the Pacific had sunk 329 Japanese ships, probably sunk 36 others and damaged 109 enemy vessels.
