New U.S. four-engined tug on trial run.
New U.S. four-engined tug on trial run. A new-type American tug pushes a large barge during a demonstration run in Southern U.S. waters. Decribed by its builders as the most powerful tug of its size, the vessel is propelled by a battery of four gasiline engines capable of developing 572 horsepower. It can be operated by one or two men instead of a crew of from five to seven men, the numbers usually required, to man tudboats of older types. The craft is 40 deet long and 15 feet wide. With a draft of only six feet, it can be used in shallow harbors, canals and other inland waterways towing or pushing large barges laden with war supplies. Becaus of its rugged construction and strenght, the powerful little vessel is called Sea Mule.
