Bremen submarine shipyard bombed. American submarine experts survey the damage in the Deshlmag submarine shipyards in Bremen, Germany, blasted by Allied bombers March 14, 1945. At right is George N. Babcock of Waterford, Conncticut, a civilian submarine expert, and with him is Sergeant Frederick Posses of Long Island, New York, both of U.S. Strategic Bomb Survey. Bremen was captured April 28, 1945. The Deshimag yards were the second largest in Germany and produced one submarine ervery two and a hald weeks. To minimize the effects of Allied bombs, the ships were built on eight sections in various parts of Germany and each section was brought to the yard, where 18,000 workers assembled them.
