The Hawser snap: in submarine rescue attempt: dramatic series of pictures.

The Hawser snap: in submarine rescue attempt: dramatic series of pictures. A dramatic series of pictures depicting the failure of the salvage attempt on the Thetis yesterday afternoon, taken from the Liverpool Tug Poolgarth. 1. The salvage steamer vigilant is grappling with the stern of the Thetis. Hawsers are seen attached to the protruding tail. 2. The Poolgarth also ties up to the vigilant's tail. 3. The pull on the Hawsers comes, engines turn their hardest and it seems as if the submarine is coming out of the water. 4. The Thetis cants over during the attempt. 5. An admiralty officer climbs from a naval pinnage on to the stern of the Thetis to make an inspection. 6. The order comes to pull the other way - the Hawsers snap and curl away, and the Thetis sinks out of sight. 7. All that is left to mark the spot - the marker buoy, released by the submarine on Thursday. It is a tragic "As you were".
