Wrecked ship whose S.O.S. capsized St. Ives lifeboat answered. The Medea(540 tons), formerly a mineslayer, wrecked on the rocks at Padstow (Cornwall) after breaking away from the tug which was towing her to the breskers'yards at Portsmouth. It was in response to an S.O.S., believed to have come from the tug towing the Medea, that the St. Ives Lifeboat put out in a north-westerly gale. The lifeboat capsized and was wrecked outside the bay. Seven of the eight crew lost their lives. The Master of the Medeawas swept overboard. Three others of the crew were rescued by rocket apparatus.
