Bremen citizens repair water mains. Civilians in Bremen, Germany, prepare to drop a new section of water main in place. They are working under direction of the Military Government. Bremen, second largest German seaport and submarine building and storage center, was captured April 26, 1945; by units of the Second British Army. The city of 342,113 had been the target of heavy bombing attacks over a long period of time. It was expected that the city would offer bitter resistance but the conquering troops encountered only desultery defense.
