SHADOWS ON HITLER'S WALL An A-20 (Havoc) light bomber of the Ninth U.S.
SHADOWS ON HITLER'S WALL An A-20 (Havoc) light bomber of the Ninth U.S. Air Force is shown laying a smoke screen low over the waters of the English Channel during exercises preceding the invasion of Europe June 6, 1944. Armed with a vicious array of .50 caliber machine guns, carrying a heavy weight of bombs and capable of extreme speed, the Havocs are the newest addition to Allied air power operating from the United Kingdom. Although they have been fighting in various theaters for some time, the A-20's flying for the Ninth Air Force have secret modifications greatly increasing their potency. They fill a classification about half way between fighters and Marauder medium bombers.
