U.S. coast guard cutter sinks German U-boat, captures 33 of crew. Thirty-three German officers and men, taken prisoner by the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Icarus when she attacked and destroyed their U-boat in the Atlantic, are shown being fed after they had been landed at a U.S. Navy base on the East Coast. The Icarus was on a routine cruise when it located the submarine and immediately attacked with depth charges. The attack forces the damaged U-boat to the surface and the cutter finished it off with gunfire. As the U-boat sank the 33 men managed to jump into the sea and were taken prisoner.
