German woman soldier treated by German nurse after capture. A German woman soldier is treated by a German nurse in an American ambulance after their capture near Strassbourg, France. Ten thousand prisoners were taken when the Alsatian capital was wrested from the enemy November 23, 1944, by General Jacques Philippe Leclerc's Second French Armored Division fighting with the Seventh U.S. Army. From "D-Day", June 6, 1944, up to November 30, the Allied armies took 750,000 prisoners on the Western Front.
