Repatriated French prisoners of war at Le Havre. Repatriated French prisoners of war cheer as the Norwegian freighter Kong Haakon VII ties up along the quays at Le Havre, France, September 9, 1945. More than 1,000 French soldiers arrived on the Norwegian ship and were welcomed by their compatriots as they disembarked. After their capture by the Germans, these men were incarcerated in camps in Norway where they were liberated when Allied troops entered the country in May, 1945. The first repatriated French soldiers to arrive at Le Havre, they were given hot meals and cigarettes by the Red Cross before they boarded trains fot their homes.
