Baal-Bearing plant bombed. This photograph was made from a B-17 Flying Fortress of the Eight U.S. Air Force December 31, 1944, in an attack on the vital CAM ball-bearing plant and the nearby Hispano Suiza aircraft engine repair depot in Paris. Meeting little fihter opposition and favored by good visibility, they left their cargo well within the target area. The CAM ball-bearing plant in Paris manufactured a great many of the precision bearing required to maintain the mecjanized Nazi war machine on its many defense fronts. The Daimler Benz aircraft engine repaired in the Hispano Suiza plant is used in single-engine fighters. Fires started by the attack were seen by the bomber crews for many miles after they had left the target area.
