Norway's little ships are in the front line. The engineer on board the S.S. 'Vestmanrod, his face begrimed with oil, looks out to catch a first glimpse of Normandy as the ship arrives off the coast of France. The Vestmanrod is only one of a number of little ships of the Norwegian Merchant Navy engaged with the Allied floots in the front line task of carrying material to the Allies since D-Day. These little ships, part of the 4,000,000 tons comprising the Norwegian fleet, which has seen action with the Allies since 1940, are ideal for this type of work as few large ships can be used while the beaches are the unloading points.
