The rise and fall of the Nazi state.
The rise and fall of the Nazi state. Allied Men and Supplies Pour Ashore in France - Allied vehicles and landing craft blacken the beaches of northern France as thousands of Allied soldiers and tond of supplies come ashore after the landings of June 6, 1944. On that day an Allied invasion armada that stretched as far as the eye could see steamed across the English Channel to the Normandy coast and assaulted the suuposedly imprognable German "West Wall". Soon Allied soldiers and armored units were pushing inland across the rich Normandy countryside, and fanning out in the direction of the French capital. Although bitterly contested, the initial landings surprised the Germans out of their fortified security and the vast bridge of ships from England to the continent that poured supplies into France in mounting quantities, gave the Allies adequate strength to combat the unsuccessful German counterattacks. Over this section of the beach, barrage balloons serve as a protection from the enemy air attacks that were only sporadic. Continuous Allied air attacks on the continent had made a sizeable dont in the German air force and gave the Allies control of the skies.
