U.S Troops move war suppleis inland from Hollandia Beachhead American soldiers use two-wheeled carts to transport battle equipment over a rough road leading inland from their point of landing near Hollandia, on the northern coast of New Guinea. On April 22, 1944, U.S. forces stormed ashore at two points flanking Hollandia and at Aitap, to the east, launching a three-pronged offensive against the Japanese defenders oft he Southwest Pacific island. As a result of the landings, the Allies now control an additional 150-mile coastal stretch of Northern New Guinea and have completed the entrapment of an estimated 60,000 enemy troops dispersed - throughout that area.
