American soldiers, pursuing the Nazis from Chateau-Thierry, pause to inspect a damaged monument near the town, erected as a memorial to the heroic dead of the Third Division, United States Army', who lost their lives in July, 1918, when American and French forces pushed the Germans back across the Marne River.
