U.S. Forces enter Berlin. General Omar N. Bradley speaks at a ceremony at the Adolf Hitler barracks in the Borough of Zehlendorf, Berlin, to commemorate entry of the Second U.S. Armored Division into Germany's capital city July 4, 1945 (American Independence Day). At 4 P.M. (Berlin time), soldiers of the Second Armored Division ran up the American Flag over the barracks as they took over the section of Berlin which will be under U.S. control. General Bradley is serving as Acting Commander of the European Theater of Operations in the absence of General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower.
