Two railway centers in Nüremburg, captured April 20, 1945, by the Seventh U.S. Army, were high priority targets for planes of the Eighth U.S. Air Force and the RAF. The occupied city's branch of Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nüremburg (M.A.N.) war industries lies between a main rail station to the north and a large marshalling yard to the southeast.
