Verenigde Staten. U.S. Shells burst over Nazi position in Northern Alsace. White phosphorus shells splashing white smoke over an enemy position in Reipertswiller, on the northern border of the Alsace-Lorraine front, overshadow the gray smoke of a high explosive shell bursting in the background as Seventh U.S. Army units hammer the enemy. When this picture was taken, part of the town was occupied by the Nazi's and the rest by the Americans. By February 9, 1945, all organized enemy resistance west of the Rhine for 90 miles in Alsace was reported over.
