Valkenswaard. "The Brothers of our Lady of Lourdes, in the Dutch town of Valkenswaard, entertain some British soldiers. The Brothers one evening noticed some British soldiers and two officers looking rather 'lost' in the town. The men were therefore invited into the Brothers' study, where songs were sung in Dutch and English including the British National Anthem. The Brothers' were given the first English cigarettes they had had for over four years. hey recounted to our men some of their experiences under the German occupation and in exchange were told stories of the battles in Normandy. The Brothers belong to an order which runs schools, mental homes and orphanages. They are all educated men who have passed through teaching colleges, and most of them speak good English. When the Germans occupied Holland, they immediately cut the wages of the religious teachers by 40% and demanded that they give at least 4-hours German lessons per week. This the teachers avoided doing whenever possible." Brothers of our Lady of Lourdes entertain some British soldiers. Singing the British National Anthem in English and Dutch.
