British advance towards the Maas.
British advance towards the Maas. In Holland the whole allied line is moving swiftly to the Maas, following the British capture of Hertogenbosch and Tilburg. The Germans fought desperately to hold Hertogenbosch against the attacks of General Dempseys 2nd army. Its capture was an essential preliminary to the fresing of the passage to the port of Antwerp. Mines, floodes and timber obstacles were all used to delay the british advance. Photo Shows: After the British entry into Hertogenbosch considerable numbers of enemy troops were left in the woods in the area. Infantry mounted Sherman tanks at dusk, and were carried forward to positions from which they could prevent the escape of these enemy troops from the Allied net.
