U.S. Army officier instructs Chinese soldiers near Liuchow. U.S. Army Lieutenant Claude E. Davis (left) instructs Chinese guerilla troops of Kwangsi Province as they observe planes near the south China city of Liuchow. The former 14th U.S. Army Air Force base of Liuchow was captured from the Japanese on June 26, 1945. It was the first of nine former 14th Air Force bases retaken from the enemy by July 27. From these bases, Allied planes are landing tactical support to advancing Chinese armies. NI 9284
