Zamboanga Harbor, Manila, restored to use.

Zamboanga Harbor, Manila, restored to use. This air view of the harbor of Zamboanga City, on the island of Mindanao in the souther Philippines, shows the dock area cleared of the rubble and a ship being unloaded. Supplies for both U.S. Army and Filipine civilian use are funneled through the prt. U.S. cargo ships bring food, supplies and ammunition form U.S. ports to the Philippines harbor. As President harry S. Truman said in a message to Congress June 1, 1945: 'All of our campaigns in Europe and in the Pacific have depended on long lines of communication and upon quantities of supply unheard of in prior warfare ... Shifting our ground and air strength from Europe to the Far East presents transportation problems even greater and more complicated than those involved in the initial deployment of our forces to all parts of the world. Millions of men and millions of tons of supplies must be moved half way around the globe.' NI 9238
